Săcel Art Residency exhibiton

Over two weeks, a group of artists (Morgane Denzler, Damien Rouxel, Delia Popa, Ioana Cirlig, Andreea Medar and Ilie Mihali) reactivated the project in Sacel (Maramures, Romania) at the invitation of Anca Poterasu (ARAC). A collective time of thought, encounters, plastic experiments, lo,gues discussions and questioning about the agricultural realities of our place. We are aware of the extreme fragility of these agricultural realities.

Loc de Acțiune – Crețesti

Since 2020, Delia Popa has been focusing on her place, the village of Crețești located in the commune of Vidra, in southern Ilfov County. In her grandparents’ house, she establishes her studio.In 2022, starting from this precise location, she works in harmony with the house: the furniture, the ceramic tiles adorning the wood burning stove, the architecture, the wood, the everyday objects. She also works with the garden ecosystem: the walnut tree, the greenhouse, the crops, the human and more-than-human inhabitants.

The exhibition ”You Betrayed the Party Just When You Should Have Helped It” is a part of the project ”In(Visible) Traces. Artistic Memories of the Cold War”, initiated by Documenta in Zagreb and organized together with the Romanian Association for Contemporary Art, Bucharest; Blockfrei, Vienna and The Bautzner Straße Dresden Memorial, Dresden. The project aims to engage artists, researchers, educators, policymakers, and citizens in reflecting, preserving and discussing European cultural heritage, focusing on neglected Cold War-era historical sites.

The Line of the Valley – Part II

Prietena mea genială/ 나의 눈부신 친구/ My Brilliant Friend

My Brilliant Friend is a project born out of the curatorial friendship between Seolhui Lee and Anca Mihuleț. The two curators met in 2019 while working for the Busan Biennale and Singapore Biennale, respectively, trying to solve the mystery around a video work by the Romanian-Cuban artist Sandu Darie.

The works reflect both local and cultural influences and contribute to critical research aimed at developing a strategic action plan for the sustainable development of our community.

From Aurora Király’s landscapes to Delia Popa’s introspective reflections, Iosif Király’s blurring of reality and fantasy, Ioana Cîrlig’s documentation of coal miners, and Matei Bejenaru’s chronicles of forgotten spaces, Ecology of the Afterlife contemplates the interconnectedness of living beings.

Memory Practices
