Damien Rouxel și-a finalizat studiile superioare în arte la EESAB din Quimper, precum și în cadrul departamentului de Istoria Artei și Arheologie al Universității din Quimper.
“Born on this breton farm, a wonderful source of imagination for my childhood games, I’m the eldest and I won’t be taking over the farm. For a long time, being “the country bumpkin” and the “queer” allowed me to take the step back necessary for my survival. I became a visual artist and quickly returned to it, shifting the boundaries from within by asserting myself and showing this rural world differently. Transforming shame into pride.
In the manure, I found the glitter.”
“The son of farmers, Damien Rouxel grew up on a farm. He knows the harshness, the codes, the tools, the language of the farming world. His visual work (photography, video, sculpture, installation, and performance) aims to reclaim the farm, transforming it into a playground where the animals, his parents and sister, the machines, the tools, and everything that makes up the work environment become the setting and the actors of his productions. These hybridize different avenues of research such as his personal history, his family, his sexual identity, art history, the question of the monster, the myth, the model, cross-dressing, and the mask. The farm thus becomes the theater of an imagination playing with both freedom and complexity.”
